Engines
If you’ve ever flown anywhere, chances are we’ve already met. Surely, you’ve seen the large turbines hanging beneath the aircraft’s wings. Those are the engines – and that’s our business.

Making things fly
We design, develop and manufacture advanced engine components for civil and defence aircraft, as well as space launchers and industrial gas turbines.
Committed to sustainability and lifecycle optimisation, we cover all aspects of engine care – from component repair solutions to full engine overhauls – with unmatched turnaround times.
This is who we are

From concept to completion
From blueprint to industry-defining breakthroughs
Our roots in engineering stretch back nearly a century, beginning with the manufacture of essential engine components. Today, we are responsible for the entire lifecycle – from concept to completion.
This end-to-end approach allows us to integrate a circular flow of knowledge from the outset, leveraging deep expertise and advanced technology to redefine what’s possible.

Amanda Dalstam

A journey from trainee to IT leadership
At GKN Aerospace, careers are built on challenges, innovation and making a real difference. Just ask Amanda Dalstam, one of our talented employees, who joined us as a trainee in 2018 and has since risen to a leadership role, helping shape the future of aerospace.
A passion for aviation
After earning a degree in mechanical engineering from Chalmers University and completing a master’s degree in the US, Amanda’s passion for aviation led her to GKN. She began an 18-month trainee programme, rotating roles every 10 weeks. This hands-on experience provided her with deep insights into our business and prepared her for her next step.
Driving innovation and sustainable solutions
Six years later, Amanda is now driving innovation within IT, managing multiple teams and developing strategies to create cutting-edge solutions: ”I am responsible for three teams consisting of approximately 35 people who develop solutions for our engineers in design and production. Together, my teams cover all sites within our Engines division and ensure that we work smarter with data and analytics.”
From working on repair solutions to leading teams across different systems, she has consistently tackled challenges head-on. She even played a key role in setting up a new factory in Malaysia while commuting between Los Angeles and Singapore – an experience that highlights her adaptability and determination.
Opportunities to make a difference
Amanda’s journey reflects the opportunities available at GKN Aerospace. “Working here for 20 years isn’t unusual,” she says, “but with my six years, I still feel like I’m just getting started.”
For Amanda, GKN Aerospace is more than just a workplace – it’s a community where people feel secure, supported and encouraged to share their knowledge. “It’s about building trust while embracing challenges. This is a company where you can truly make a difference.”

Alexander Grima

From NASA to AI: Alexander Grima’s journey through aerospace
Alexander Grima has been fascinated by space since childhood, spending countless hours reading about the Space Shuttle and dreaming of becoming an astronaut. When he realised his height exceeded NASA’s requirements, he pursued a degree at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, specialising in rocket science.
During his studies, Alexander received an email from Christer Fuglesang, Sweden’s first astronaut, about an exchange programme with NASA. He had until Monday to respond, and he took the chance. This led to a position at NASA, where he worked on flow analysis and supported startups in aerospace technologies.
From NASA to GKN Aerospace
“After about a year in the US, I decided to return back home, and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect – GKN Aerospace reached out with an offer to join their Engines systems supporting the RM12 in the Gripen aircraft team.”
Since joining GKN Aerospace in 2016, Alexander has been able to take chances and develop in ways he hadn’t anticipated. “The company encourages us to take initiative and create new opportunities. Here, we have the freedom to explore and make a real difference. Since I started, I have had various roles, from engine systems engineer to industrial data scientist and full stack data scientist.”
Today, Alexander works as a data and analytics architect, focusing on leveraging AI to revolutionise aerospace technology. “My work is centred on giving people at GKN Aerospace the best possible conditions to operate effectively.”
“AI may seem like a tool to make things smarter, but the more we learn, the more ambitious our goals become,” Alexander laughs. “It might not be space exploration, but it’s still uncharted territory, and that’s what makes it exciting.”
