GKN Aerospace and Saab expand collaboration on Gripen E/F’s engine

GKN Aerospace and Saab have signed a long-term collaboration agreement covering the Gripen E/F propulsion system. The agreement gives GKN Aerospace a broader role as engine partner within the Gripen E/F programme and expands cooperation between the two companies.

Through the agreement, GKN Aerospace becomes Saab's preferred provider of engine services related to Gripen E/F. The collaboration covers propulsion support, capability development and contributions to Saab's international Gripen campaigns.

Sara Eklöf, SVP Governmental Solutions - defence and space, GKN Aerospace, said:
"Gripen is one of the world's most advanced fighter aircraft systems. This agreement strengthens our collaboration with Saab and expands GKN Aerospace's role in supporting the long-term development of the Gripen E/F propulsion system.” 

The agreement defines how Saab and GKN Aerospace will work together on engine and propulsion-related activities within the Gripen E/F programme. It is intended to further strengthen the Gripen E/F offering for both Sweden and international customers.

GKN Aerospace already plays a key role in Gripen engine maintenance and technical support activities in Sweden. The new agreement broadens that collaboration to include long-term capability development and expanded customer support activities for current and future Gripen operators.

GKN Aerospace is the type certificate holder for the RM12 engine powering the Gripen C/D fleet.
