GKN Aerospace helps power Ariane 6 on third successful launch
GKN Aerospace congratulates the entire Ariane 6 team on the third successful launch of Europe’s heavy-lift space rocket.
In the early hours of August 13 CET, Ariane 6 lifted off from Europe’s Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, carrying MetOp-SG A1 — the first in a new generation of weather satellites for EUMETSAT. These satellites will enhance weather forecasting and monitor climate change.
GKN Aerospace’s team in Sweden developed and manufactured key engine components for Ariane 6, including turbines and the rocket’s nozzle. These systems play a critical role in generating the thrust needed to escape Earth’s gravity.
“Europe’s ability to stand on its own when it comes to both space transport and satellites is strategically important,” said Martin Wänblom, VP of GKN Aerospace Sweden. “Considering the complexity and scope of the mission, it’s impressive that all our space rocket engine development and manufacturing takes place here in Sweden.”
The Ariane 6 program is Europe’s heavy-lift solution for carrying large payloads into multiple orbits within a single mission, giving the continent independence in space access. GKN Aerospace has been part of the Ariane journey since the 1970s — and remains at the forefront of cutting-edge space propulsion technology today.
