Enhancing the aircraft of today

We are technology leaders in aerostructures, engine systems, transparencies, and wiring systems. Our advanced technologies improve the performance of more than 100,000 flights every day.

Technology driving differentiation

We believe that technology is the key driver of innovation in the aerospace industry.

We are proud to operate at the forefront and committed to meet the needs of our customers and help aircraft fly further, faster and greener.

Our technology and solutions

Lightweight composites, additive manufacturing, electrical wiring interconnection systems and innovative engine systems help to reduce emissions and weight on today’s aircraft contributing to reduced carbon emissions.

Lightweight Composites

Known for its unique processing possibilities, lightweight properties, and strength, composites are increasingly being used in the aerospace industry to replace various metallic parts. GKN Aerospace is technology leading in breakthrough thermoset and thermoplastic aerostructures reducing the weight of aircraft structures up to 20% compared to traditional solutions like metal.

Additive Manufacturing and Advanced Metallics

GKN Aerospace is a global leader in Additive Manufacturing (AM) with AM components on seven flying platforms. AM technology is of vital importance for a sustainable future of the aerospace industry. AM is adding value by speeding up and customising product design and development, while maintaining the best possible quality.

Electrical Wiring Interconnection Systems

GKN Aerospace’s wiring business is recognised as a market and technology leader in electrical wiring interconnection systems (EWIS) for commercial and military aircraft and aircraft engines.

Due to the replacement of hydraulic and pneumatic systems with electrical systems the volume of EWIS is growing significantly. Currently, a representative mid-haul civil aircraft contains ~55 kilometers of cables, 16,000 cable segments, 50,000 connections, and 4,000 termination structures (connectors, terminals, etc.)

Thermoplastic composites

Sustainable thermoplastic composites save at least
10% weight compared to traditional materials, and are contributing to reduced carbon emissions. Our R&D programmes are focused on the development of new thermoplastic materials and processes for scalable high volume production of lightweight sustainable components.
