Filton & Western Approach apprenticeship schemes
Meet our apprentices
An apprenticeship with GKN Aerospace combines learning practical skills with classroom studies, preparing you for a future career at the heart of engineering.
Giving you the support you need
All our GKN training advisors have considerable experience in the aerospace industry. When you join our scheme, one of the team will be appointed as your mentor, and will be able to offer advice and support with any issues – work or study based – that you might have during your time as an apprentice.
Your training advisors will meet with you regularly during your first year and will work with the college to ensure you learn the skills you will need. They are also responsible for you during your placements in your second and third years.
GKN Aerospace Filton also offers work experience to students in education
Here at GKN we understand the importance of work experience placements to help develop young minds in the understanding of engineering and to encourage growth in confidence and communication skills.
We tailor each placement to meet the interests and learning needs of the applicant. Please note that priority is given to applicants who show a genuine interest in engineering.
All work and no play?
Far from it! During the first year all our apprentices spend a week at an outdoor activity centre. Here you will take part in activities such as orienteering, mountaineering and raft building, as well as practising skills such as planning and presenting.
This will help you to develop key skills and get to grips with values and behaviours that will help you in your future personal development within your apprenticeship and beyond.
We also place a great deal of importance on building good community relations, so you will have every opportunity to take part in a wide range of community and charity projects.
