engine products

GKN Aerospace is a leading provider of a comprehensive range of high-performance metallic and composite components in both hot and cold sections of the engine, partnering closely with every major aero-engine company including Rolls-Royce, Snecma, Pratt & Whitney, GE and Honeywell.

GKN Aerospace’s capabilities in engine products are developed through ongoing investment and innovation. We lead the market in the design and production of fan containment cases in titanium, alloy and composites. We deliver a wide range of components such as fan blades, fan cases, blisks and guide vanes and, in response to customer demands, we are increasingly building the ability to produce complete engine-ready modules.

Our investment program supports customers in the drive to enhance engine efficiency through innovative product design and the application of specialist manufacturing processes developed by GKN Aerospace. The advanced techniques for metallics include Chemi-Milling, to generate rib geometries to close tolerances by removing the surface metal with chemicals to produce burr- and stress-free products. Electro-Chemical Machining (ECM), which enables a fast stress- and burr-free machining of complex shapes regardless of material hardness to achieve better engine efficiency and mechanical properties and Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM). EDM is a process that works exceptionally hard metals that would otherwise be difficult to machine, and is capable of creating extremely accurate and complex parts. We also operate the largest Electron Beam Welding (EBM) machine in North America.

Composites have an increasing role to play in engine design and we are creating new composite components such as fan blades and acoustic liners. GKN Aerospace is leading the industry in composite technology and applications and these advances include development of the first composite front fan case, for the GEnx engine, the first composite engine structural assembly, for the F135, and the development of advanced composite fan blades in collaboration with Rolls-Royce. The products support manufacturers in delivering engines that have fewer parts, weigh less, are structurally very resilient and achieve improved efficiency.
